How do you trap pictures created in graphics programs from within QuarkXPress 3.0?
QuarkXPress 3.0 provides trapping controls only for items that are created in QuarkXPress. However, there may be occasions when you want to trap imported color pictures. In general, QuarkXPress provides no trapping controls for imported graphics. The graphics will print from QuarkXPress as they would from the program in which they were created.
Here are a few tips about trapping imported color pictures:
* In QuarkXPress, you can apply color to imported pictures in the following formats: PAINT; TIFF and RIFF line art and grayscale; and black-and-white bitmap and grayscale bitmap PICTs. The only trapping options for pictures in these formats are overprint and knockout.
* If you want to overprint a colorized picture on top of its background color, specify Overprint as the trapping relationship between the "object" color applied to the picture and the background color of the picture box. Any other trapping specification for a color applied to a picture will result in a knockout.
* When Automatic trapping is specified for the object color Black relative to the background color of a picture box and the box contains a picture to which you have applied the color Black and a shade value of 95% or greater, the picture will overprint the background color.
If you want QuarkXPress to trap an imported color picture correctly when you print separations, you must create the traps in the illustration program before importing the picture.
